For many of us, using uTorrent for all kinds of downloads is crucial, but unfortunately, there are many reasons for downloads to be slow, and we know how frustrating this can be. Fortunately, there are many smart people who find ways to speeding up uTorrent that will help you download your torrents a lot faster. Let’s take a look at several ways to help speed up your uTorrent Downloads.
Method 1 – Choosing a Healthy Torrent
If you’re given the option of taking several different torrents, you need to select the most healthy. This is very much down to the concept of seeder and leecher. A seeder is a user that has a complete copy of the file, shared across the torrent network for download, and a leecher is one that doesn’t have it, so it will download it. Once downloaded, the leecher becomes a seeder.
To find high-speed torrents, you need to find a torrent that has more seeders than leechers. That means more people have the download available, rather than using all the network for leechers. Choosing a torrent that is healthy, as we’ve mentioned above, will keep your torrent download as speedy as ever.
Method 2 – Check your uTorrent Download Settings
By default, there are some settings that should be enabled/ticked that actually aren’t. To take a look at this, you will need to be the Options > Preferences > General. Once in this area of uTorrent, at the bottom, you should see ‘When Downloading’ All three of the following settings should be ticked.
- Append .!ut to incomplete files.
- Pre-allocate all files.
- Prevent standby if there are active torrents.
Once all the above are ticked, you should be able to download your uTorrent steams slightly faster.
Method 3 – Add Windows Firewall Exception
Another simple way of allowing your uTorrent download to speed up is by adding a firewall exception. There is a really detailed way of going through this. However, uTorrent also has a built-in way to allow for this to be done for you.
To add a Windows Firewall Exception, all you need to do is go to Options > Preferences > Connections, and under “Connection,” you should see “Add Windows Firewall Exception”. This should pop up a little golden box stating you wish to make changes to the Firewall, and you should press ok, but if not, don’t worry.
Once done, then press Apply, and this should give you a slightly faster download speed for all your future uTorrent downloads.
Method 4 – Unlimit (or Increase) your Download Rate
Depending on what kind of internet plan you have, you may want to consider heightening your download rate to give you an edge over other users on your network and furthermore increase your download speed.
To do this, you need to go to Options > Preferences > Bandwidth. In this section, you should see a global upload and download stream. We recommend that you set the Upload to “80” and the Download to “0” to unlimited your download speed.
Once applied, this will significantly increase your download rate and hopefully will speed up your overall uTorrent download speeds.
Hopefully, one of the above methods will help you speed up your uTorrent downloads, but this is really down to your main internet provider. Hopefully, you’re download speeds are getting better after this guide, but let us know if not, and we can see if we can help!
